The Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars face similar narratives when the 2024 season kicks off this weekend. Both teams had great starts year with matching 8-3 records entering the month of December.
The Jaguars then lost five of their last six to miss out on the AFC South crown and a trip to the playoffs. While the Dolphins’ collapse happened a little later, with back-to-back losses in the last two games of the regular season and a 19-point loss in the playoffs, the end result was the same — a disappointing end that cost Miami a division title and wasted an exciting season.
Injuries played a significant role in both teams’ tailspins, but now the Jaguars and Dolphins enter 2024 with third-year head coaches, first-year defensive coordinators, recently extended, but oft-criticized quarterbacks, and plenty of pressure to prove last year was a fluke.
