The Toronto Blue Jays’ organization were so close to getting an organizational sweep.
On Sunday, the four teams in action went 2-2, but the two teams that lost each had a late lead that was squandered in the other team’s final inning at the plate.
Let’s take a look at that in the latest Minor League Report!
Buffalo snapped their losing streak
Coming into Sunday’s game, the Buffalo Bisons were on a six-game losing streak, but ended it thanks to a 9-0 win over the Durham Bulls. Their second-half record is now 22-35.
Steward Berroa continued to build upon his career-high in home runs, as he hit his ninth home run of the season. Moreover, Damiano Palmegiani, Jonatan Clase, and Alan Roden each hit a double. Roden continued to hit well in Triple-A, as he had a four-hit performance, while Palmegiani and Rafael Lantigua had two-hit games, with the latter also walking twice. Josh Kasevich, Michael Turconi, and Max McDowell each hit a single as well.

Trenton Wallace made the start for the Bisons, striking out six and allowing four hits in three scoreless innings. Andrew Bash also pitched three innings, striking out two, while Mason Fluharty struck out three in two innings of work. Hayden Juenger struck out a batter in a clean inning of work.
New Hampshire on an eight-game losing streak
Heading into the bottom of the eighth, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats had a 2-0 lead. However, the Altoona Curve scored five runs in their half of the inning, defeating the Fisher Cats to send New Hampshire’s record to 18-37. The Blue Jays’ Double-A affiliate has lost their last eight games.
It was a quiet day for the bats, as all five of their hits were singles. Moreover, only two players accounted for those hits, as Rainer Nuñez had a three-hit day, while Josh Rivera had two singles. Other than that, Dasan Brown reached on a throwing error while Ryan McCarty drew the team’s only walk.
Way to wear it, @dasani_brown3! His bunt scores Rainer Nuñez for an @encompasshlth run on the throwing error!

Starting pitching was solid for the Fisher Cats, as Michael Dominguez struck out five in five innings of work, allowing just two hits to bring his ERA to 4.15. CJ Van Eyk also pitched two scoreless innings, walking a batter. However, Trent Palmer failed to retire an out and gave up three earned runs and three walks, while Johnathan Lavallee gave up two walks, two earned runs, and two wild pitches in two thirds of an inning. Andrew Bechtold pitched a third of an inning.
Vancouver blew a huge lead late
The Fisher Cats can afford to blow leads, as they’ve been mathematically eliminated from postseason contention for quite a bit, not to mention they’ve been far out of it since the second-half started. On the other hand, the Vancouver Canadians cannot afford to blow a lead like they did last night against the Hillsboro Hops.
Heading into the bottom of the ninth, the Vancouver Canadians had an 8-3 lead over the Hillsboro Hops, the team that trails them in the Northwest League standings. However, six runs saw the Canadians fall 9-8, bringing their second-half record to 34-26. More importantly, the Canadians have a three-game lead over the Hops now.
The Canadians had eight hits in this game, with Brennan Orf’s 10th double of the season being their only extra-base hit. He had a three-hit performance, while Cutter Coffey had two singles. Peyton Williams, Je’Von Ward, and Jamari Baylor also hit singles.
Starter Pat Gallagher had a good start, finishing with a line of 7 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 6 K to bring his season ERA to 4.19. Bo Bonds also had a solid outing, striking out a batter in his inning of work. However, Kai Peterson allowed four walks and five earned runs in his two thirds of an inning pitched, while Grayson Thurman allowed the final two hits, with the final one being a two-run single to walk off the Canadians.
Dunedin edges out Lakeland
The Dunedin Blue Jays defeated the Lakeland Flying Tigers 4-3 to bring their season ERA to 30-29. They aren’t eliminated yet, but the D-Jays are 5.5 games behind with six games remaining this season. It’s essentially over for them.
There’s a realistic shot that Arjun Nimmala is the best prospect the Blue Jays have. On Sunday, he hit his 16th home run of the season for the D-Jays, and his 17th home run overall this season. He’s tied for the second-most home runs in the organization, and also hit his 17th double in Single-A as well.

Nimmala wasn’t the only Jays’ player with a multi-hit game, as Brock Tibbitts and Yhoangel Aponte each had two singles in this game, while Nick Mitchell and Sean Keys both had singles. Tucker Toman and Aaron Parker each picked up a walk.
Carter Holcombe started the game for the Blue Jays, finishing with a line of 3 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K to bring his season ERA to 2.25. Colby Martin pitched a scoreless inning, while Jonathan Todd struck out two in a clean inning of work. Julio Ortiz struck out two, but gave up an earned run in two innings of work, and Nate Garkow allowed an earned run with a strikeout in two innings of work.
