Duvall’s big swing was the difference offensively while Chris Sale continues to pitch well.

In a stellar pitching matchup between Chris Sale and Zac Gallen, two of the National League’s premier pitchers, the Braves came out victorious, 6-2, with a big blast from Adam Duvall and another strong pitching effort from Chris Sale and the bullpen.

The Braves scratched across two runs early in the second inning. Sean Murphy drove in the first run with a fielder’s choice groundout. With a runner on second and two outs, Orlando Arcia ripped a ball right at second baseman Ketel Marte, who fortunately had it bounce out of his glove and roll into shallow center field to make it 2-0.

The score held at 2-0 for the remainder of the early going. As Gallen faltered in the sixth at 103 pitches, he was (somehow) left in to face Adam Duvall with runners on the corners and two outs. And on an 0-2 pitch, Gallen left a curveball in the zone that was launched 441 feet for a 5-0 lead.

Chris Sale was not his sharpest on Tuesday, but the results continued to be excellent: 5.1 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks and 9 strikeouts. His command was shaky in the early going and his pitch count was upwards of 50 after two frames, but he settled in as the game progressed before giving up a couple of hits in the sixth and departing.

Jesse Chavez was superb over 2.2 innings in relief of Sale, dicing up Arizona’s lineup albeit with a fair bit of loud contact that fell into gloves.

Eli White added an insurance run in the 8th with a triple off the right-field wall to make it 6-2.

AJ Minter then threw a three pitch, three out ninth inning to lock down the 6-2 victory.

The Braves have won four in a row. They are 51-39.

The series will continue in Phoenix on Wednesday as Charlie Morton takes the mound against Slade Cecconi (it is currently listed as TBD, but Cecconi is projected to start), who has logged a total of 11.2 innings in his last three starts. First pitch is set for 9:40p ET.
