The Atlanta Braves will have three representatives for the 2024 MLB All-Star Game.

The Atlanta Braves were shutout in fan voting for the 2024 MLB All-Star Game but had three players named as reserves for the National League. Pitchers Chris Sale and Reynaldo López along with designated hitter Marcell Ozuna will be making the trip to Arlington for the game on Tuesday, July 16.

Ozuna is the Braves’ only position player to make the National League squad and was a no-brainer pick. He finished third behind Shohei Ohtani and Kyle Schwarber in fan voting but has put together another monster season at the plate. Ozuna’s hitting .295/.377/.566 with 23 home runs and a 162 wRC+. He leads the National League with 72 RBIs.

Atlanta’s pitching staff has done most of the heavy lifting throughout the first half. There may not have been any better offseason additions than those of Sale and Lopez. The Braves acquired Sale in an offseason trade with the Red Sox and he has been nothing short of tremendous posting a 2.71 ERA and a 2.26 FIP over 16 starts and 99 23 innings. His 32.7% strikeout rate is third in the majors among starters and trails only Garrett Crochet and Tyler Glasnow. Sale is healthy for the first time since 2019 and his presence has been a huge boost to the Braves’ rotation.

As good a story as Sale is, Lopez might be even better. The Braves inked him to a three-year deal in free agency and then announced that they were going to give him the opportunity to start. Lopez came up as a starter but had enjoyed recent success as a power arm out of the bullpen. His presence as a starter became much more important after Spencer Strider went down with a season-ending elbow injury.

Lopez has been outstanding. He tossed six scoreless innings against the Phillies Sunday. He currently leads the majors with a 1.71 ERA in 89 23 innings across 16 starts.
