The Rockies will look to sweep the Royals behind a rookie making his MLB debut

On the day the All-Stars are announced, the Colorado Rockies will look to sweep the Kansas City Royals. This will also conclude their final homestand of the first half. This series marks their first series win since taking two of three against the Cleveland Guardians on May 27-29 at Coors Field and if they are able to sweep, it will be their first since the Texas Rangers series from May 10-12 (which did kick off that exciting seven-game winning streak…).

Taking the mound for the Rockies today is 26-year-old rookie right-hander Tanner Gordon, who is making his MLB debut. Gordon was brought to Colorado alongside Victor Vodnik in the Pierce Johnson trade with the Atlanta Braves last July. I won’t go into too much more detail because Skyler Timmins did that here.

But Gordon will face Royals’ veteran righty Brady Singer (4-5, 3.05 ERA). In his last outing against the Tampa Bay Rays, Singer allowed just one run on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts in five innings, but there was also a 2:32 rain delay during the 5-1 loss. Singer has faced the Rockies just once before — a 2-0 Royals win at Kauffman Stadium — but is pitching for the first time at Coors Field.

Can the Rockies sweep today?
