Nolan Jones remains on rehab assignment as Greg Jones prepares to make his MLB debut. Michael Toglia has also been recalled.

On Thursday afternoon the Colorado Rockies announced that outfielder Sean Bouchard (right ankle sprain) and first baseman/designated hitter Kris Bryant (left rib contusion) were being placed on the 10-day injured list.

Bouchard sprained his right ankle in the waning innings of the series finale against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday afternoon. The 28-year-old UCLA product has appeared in 25 games for the Rockies this season while hitting .203/.318/.324 over that time.

Bryant—who has been plagued by injuries throughout his Rockies tenure—was originally said to have aggravated his existing back issues after getting caught in the foul line netting at Dodger Stadium earlier in the week against Los Angeles Dodgers. However, his injury designation is being called a rib contusion as he heads to the IL for the second time in 2024.

While the Rockies have played 385 games since signing Bryant to a seven-year, $182 million contract prior to the 2022 season, the former MVP and National League Rookie of the Year has appeared just 146 times—approximately 37.9% of opportunities.

In a corresponding roster move, the Rockies are calling up 26-year-old shortstop and outfielder Greg Jones. The organization’s no. 22 prospect per MLB Pipeline, Jones was acquired in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays during spring training in which the Rockies parted ways with left-handed pitching prospect Joe Rock.

In 85 at-bats with the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes Jones has hit .235/.350/.365 with five doubles, two home runs, and 15 stolen bases. He has struck out 30 times and drawn 12 walks. Jones also spent the entirety of May on the 7-day injured list.

The Rockies were interested in Jones due to his 70+ graded speed, potential in his bat, and the defensive versatility he provides up the middle. Jones will wear no.2 for the Rockies, last worn by outfielder Yonathan Daza in 2023.

The Rockies have also recalled first baseman and outfielder Michael Toglia. Despite hitting four home runs with the Rockies this season, Toglia has largely struggled during limited big league playing time. He has hit just .106/.143/.362 in 47 at-bats.

Toglia has thrived in Triple-A after being optioned to the Isotopes at the end of April. In 30 games he is hitting .277/.363/.571 with four doubles, two triples, nine home runs, and 27 RsBI. He has also drawn 15 walks to 35 strikeouts during that time, compared to his 20 strikeouts to just one walk with the big league club.

Meanwhile, outfielder Nolan Jones is continuing his rehab assignment with Triple-A Albuquerque. Jones demolished his first home run of the assignment on Wednesday night that had an exit velocity of 109 MPH and traveled 433 feet.

The Rockies are being cautious with Jones’ rehab before bringing the 2023 National League Rookie of the Year candidate back to the club. Originally sidelined due to a lingering back issue, Jones injured his knee on May 17th while on an initial rehab assignment and had to be shut down. Since resuming the assignment on Sunday he has mostly appeared as a designated hitter.
