The incident occurred during the first half, when Epps went up to make a catch across the middle of the field. Johnson could clearly be seen leading with his helmet as he hit the Pitt tight end in midair.
The defensive back’s arms were at his side as he careened his helmet into the back of the helmet of the tight end..
The hit resulted in a targeting penalty and Johnson was ejected from the game.
We might be seeing this hit from Khari Johnson’s years to come, defining textbook targeting. pic.twitter.com/OayFb83ZWl

In terms of targeting penalties, Johnson’s display was about as obvious and appalling as they come. College football fans were stunned by the hit, and had plenty to say on social media.
People always ask what targeting is. This. This is targeting. pic.twitter.com/6Xkc8ifnxh

This is the most targeting you can do https://t.co/6DHucgZKCx

There are targeting penalties, and then there is this… pic.twitter.com/huGxuO0ihe

That’s about the most blatant targeting I’ve ever seen. Khari Johnson will be sitting for the rest of the night. BC is already thin at safety without Cole Batson.
